Chapter 2 - ISO Certification
Introduction
ISO17024 is the worldwide agreed quality assurance norm for the certification of persons. This means that this norm regulates and ensures the quality of a certification process related to competences and knowledge of persons. With this potential ISO17024 is perfectly well suitable for solving the challenging problem of ensuring the quality of a awarded micro credential. As we all (and you as a VET provider especially) know that the “value” of a certificate stands or falls with the believed quality and trust in the awarding process. Only if employers, labour market actors etc. trust in what the certification certifies, the awarded credential has a high value. ISO17024, if it is applied correctly and well chosen, has the potential to solve this problem. However, ISO17024 is a quite rigid frame of quality in a certification process which needs to be understood and followed correctly and detailed to unfold its full potential. For this reason, it is important to know about and understand the background of the ISO17024 regulations and structure which will be covered in this learning chapter.
